When motherhood doesn't feel the way you thought it would…

Nothing quite prepares you for this season of life. There is exhaustion that sleep doesn't seem to fix, racing thoughts in the middle of the night when the baby is finally asleep, and a quiet guilt that creeps in when you feel more overwhelmed than joyful. Many new parents describe a sense that they are failing at something everyone else seems to manage naturally.

If this sounds familiar, please know you are not broken, and you are not alone. Postpartum anxiety and depression are among the most common experiences new parents face, though they are rarely discussed openly. They do not always present as sadness. Often, they show up as:

  • Persistent worry that something bad will happen to the baby, even when everything is fine

  • A sense of numbness or disconnection from a baby you were so excited to meet

  • Irritability or anger that feels out of character

  • Intrusive thoughts that cause distress, often followed by shame for having them

  • Physical exhaustion paired with a mind that will not settle enough to rest

  • A loss of personal identity within the role of "parent"

These experiences are not signs of weakness or inadequate parenting. They are signs that the nervous system is carrying more than it was built to hold alone, which is precisely where therapy can help.

How Tricia helps

Trish draws on approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Internal Family Systems to help clients:

  • Interrupt anxious "what if" thinking to become more present with their child and themselves

  • Process the identity shift that comes with parenthood without losing a sense of self

  • Understand the origin of intrusive or unwanted thoughts, which often reduces their intensity

  • Rebuild confidence and trust in their own instincts

  • Reconnect with the parts of themselves and their relationships that feel most authentic

Sessions take place in Arizona, Scottsdale, or over video, from the comfort of home, removing the added burden of childcare logistics or travel during an already demanding time.

Clients do not need to have things figured out before reaching out.

They simply need to be ready to stop carrying it alone.

"I really enjoyed working with Tricia. I found she struck just the right balance between listening and offering up helpful feedback."

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Do you accept insurance?
Yes. Tricia accepts most major insurance plans, including United Healthcare, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Optum, and Aetna. Insurance benefits are verified through Headway prior to your first session, so you'll know your coverage details in advance. Please note that Medicare is not currently accepted.

  • What if I don't have insurance, or my plan isn't accepted?
Private pay sessions are available at a rate of $150-$175 per session. This rate is confirmed directly with Tricia and is not processed through insurance.

  • Do you offer a consultation before booking a full session?
Yes. A free, brief consultation call is available so you can ask questions, share what you're looking for, and get a feel for whether Tricia is the right fit before committing to ongoing sessions.

  • Is it normal to have scary or unwanted thoughts about my baby?
Yes, this is far more common than most parents realize, and having these thoughts does not mean something is wrong with you or that you would ever act on them. Intrusive thoughts are a well-documented symptom of postpartum anxiety, and they tend to cause significant distress precisely because they conflict so strongly with how much you love your child. Talking about them openly, rather than carrying the shame alone, is often the first step toward relief.

  • How soon after having my baby should I seek support?
There's no "right" time. Some parents notice symptoms within the first few weeks, while others don't recognize what they're experiencing until months later, sometimes even after returning to work or once the initial adrenaline of the newborn stage wears off. Postpartum anxiety and depression can also emerge well beyond the traditional "fourth trimester." If something feels off, that's a reason to reach out, regardless of how much time has passed since delivery.

  • Can I bring my baby to a session, or do I need childcare?
Because all sessions are conducted over video from home, you have flexibility that in-person therapy doesn't allow. Some parents schedule sessions during a nap window, and others simply attend with their baby nearby. There's no expectation of having outside childcare arranged in order to begin therapy.

  • Are sessions in person or online?
Trish works both in person in Phoenix and online throughout all of Arizona.

  • What can I expect in a first session?
The first session is focused on understanding your story, current challenges, and goals for therapy. There's no pressure to have everything figured out. Tricia will ask questions to understand your history and what's bringing you in now, and together you'll begin shaping a path forward.

  • What issues do you specialize in?
Tricia works with adults and adolescents navigating anxiety, depression, postpartum challenges, trauma, relationship issues, and life transitions. With more than 27 years of experience, she draws on approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Internal Family Systems, tailored to each client's needs.

  • How do I get started?
You can call or email to schedule a free consultation, or book directly through Headway if you'd like to use insurance. From there, Tricia will help determine the best next steps based on your needs and availability.
